Anna Serierse Quartet

The Anna Serierse Quartet was founded in 2016. In this quartet Anna plays together with Gijs Idema on guitar, Cas Jiskoot on double bass and Tim Hennekes on drums. They perform self written arrangements of standards influenced by vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Fay Claassen, Blossom Dearie and Cyrille Aimee, but also instrumentalists like Peter Bernstein and Jesse van Ruller. They seek for a transparant sound with modern influences, still rooted in the swing and bebop tradition. Recently they started playing their own compositions as well.

Anna Serierse / Gijs Idema Duo

Gijs and Anna are playing together for quite some time, in lots of different groups and formations. Interaction and lyricism are keywords for the duo’s playing. They are very close and musically agile. They play their favourite, self-arranged standards. Gijs and Anna also started writing their own music together.

Kika Sprangers Large Ensemble

Kika Sprangers (saxophone) started her ‘large ensemble’ in the summer of 2017.  The band consists of her original quintet (drums, electric bass, piano, guitar and saxophone), extended with three singers and a horn section with bass clarinet, trumpet, french horn and flute. In her compositions she lets the melody and lyricism speak, on top of a steady groove. Her music is inspired by many styles and icons from jazz and fusion. She tells a story with her playing and she will always be looking for new inspiration. She likes to experiment in a live setting with musical conversations between her and her band members. In this band Anna has the role of ‘side man’. This is something she likes very much. This year the EP 'Leaves of Lily' was released. CD's are available at Kika Sprangers, or you can listen to it on Spotify!

From april 2015 until april 2017 Anna was a part of the vocal section of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO). Under the guidance of Martin Fondse, this young bigband has played on lots of big Dutch stages, as the Bimhuis, LantarenVenster and Paradiso. The NJJO also performed at  North Sea Jazz Festival 2016 and they made their appearance on Dutch television, at De Wereld Draait Door.

For two summers the NJJO was part of the ‘Young Metropole’, a collaboration between the NJO (National Youth Orchestra) and the Metropole Academy. Led by Steffen Schorn, Jules Buckley and Martin Fondse, they gave a lot of concerts, for example at the beautiful Radio Kootwijk and at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.

The NJJO is also a part of the project ‘Three Nations Under One Groove’, together with the english National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and the german Deutsche Bundes Jazz Orchester (BuJazzO). In this special collaboration the three bigbands play together in different setups, with arrangements specially made for this project. They played in Holland and Germany, and they went on tour to England in March 2017. Here they played in amazing venues as King's Place in London, Gateshead Jazz Festival in Newcastle and the Royal Theatre in Nottingham

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO) is the winner of the Zilveren Notenkraker 2016.
